iCalendar version of the event
"Brats Class" is for healthy, adolescent and adult dogs 5 months and older. Orientation (held without dogs) is scheduled for Sunday, September 19th. Graduation will be on Sunday, November 7th. Class fee is $215.00 paid in advance. No refunds once class begins. You may register online (see link below at bottom of this page), but you must speak to me directly in order to confirm your dog's enrollment. Please contact me at (609) 280-9338. During the Brats Level 1 Class, we focus on the basics, but we concentrate on getting the dog to do these behaviors with distractions. Focus is given to teaching self-control and recall training. Several training sessions are devoted to getting your dog to stop pulling when you take him for walks. If your dog jumps on people, you will be happy to know we devote a lot of time to teaching your dog to keep all 4 on the floor!
As an adolescent, your dog will begin testing behaviors to see what works and what doesn't. This is a critical time in a dog's life and good training now will help ensure that s/he will develop into a well-mannered and polite adult companion pet. Another aspect of training included in this class is role-playing real-life situations involving both humans and dogs. For example, you will learn how to get your dog to pay close attention to you. He will calmly walk by your side while another dog walks by in the opposite (or same) direction. Your dog will also learn to come directly to you while another dog is headed toward its owner running close by (recall relay races). Student-dogs learn to lie down and stay while owners leave the room (maybe you have to go outside and get the mail, or you'll have to answer the door). Yes, your dog will patiently lie in his spot and wait for you to return to him! Your dog will also learn to wait politely at the door before going out for walks.
